Dr. Gilda Barabino, President of Olin College of Engineering, “Engineering for Everyone”

Dr. Gilda Barabino, the recently inaugurated president of Olin College of Engineering, will discuss Olin’s inspiring vision of “Engineering for Everyone” at the Needham Free Public Library on Sunday, February 5 at 2:00 PM.

Olin opened in Needham in 1997 “as a college and as a cause.” Dr. Barabino, who became Olin’s second president in 2020, will share the College’s vision for an engineering education that advances equity and prepares graduates to have the skills and dedication to make true and lasting real-world impact.

Marcus Nelson, vice chair of the Needham Select Board, will introduce Dr. Barabino.

Dr. Barabino was inaugurated as Olin’s second president in May 2022. A chemical engineer by training, with broad interests in global health and interdisciplinary research and education, she has pioneered new engineering approaches to problems in medicine. She is a passionate advocate for health equity and leads national efforts to engage engineers in the development of solutions to health disparities.

Dr. Barabino has received many of the highest honors in academia. In 2021, she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is also an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering and the National Academy of Medicine and president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the world’s largest interdisciplinary scientific society.

This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Needham Public Library and will be a live event in the Community Room of the Needham Free Public Library. Registration is required , as we have a current capacity limit of 100.
